š Luck of theā¦Startup Founder? š
I donāt personally ācelebrateā St. Patrickās Day, but I know lots of people do ā after all, weāre all Irish on St. Pattyās Day, right?
(For the record ā I did wear green yesterday ā but I didnāt head to the pub and my kids didnāt get any surprises from any leprechauns. But zero judgment if the leprechaun visits your home every year šš¤Ŗ)

The one aspect of St. Pattyās Day thatās hard to escape, though, is all that talk of luck.
But hereās the thing: I donāt buy it š«£
(Not specifically the luck of the Irish ā I mean luck in general.)
Because hereās the thing: Most people eventually come to terms with the fact that good fortune (notice that I didnāt say luck there) is a result of a whole host of things:
Hard work
Research
Making the right connections
Planning
Privilege
Being in the right place at the right time
Hard work (see what I did there?)
So if youāre a startup founder and youāre hoping to get lucky, I have some news for ya:
Itās probably NOT gonna happen. (See list above.)
This is not meant to discourage you, but rather to ENCOURAGE you to pull every lever, do all your research, meet every person, implement every optimization that makes sense for your business⦠etc., etc.
Because itās the combination of all of those things thatās going to lead to success.
Leave the luck to the little guy sitting at the end of the rainbow. Just remember: heās not going to share his gold unless youāve put in the WORK.
Happy Bootstrapping!
